  信奉穆斯林教的里兹瓦·罕(沙鲁克·罕 饰)从小患有阿斯伯格综合症,母亲去世后,他追随弟弟扎克尔(吉米·舍尔吉勒 饰)的脚步从印度孟买移民美国旧金山。里兹瓦在帮哥哥的化妆品公司推销美容产品时认识了经营发廊的单身母亲曼迪娅(卡卓尔 饰)。里兹瓦不顾哥哥的反对执意与印度教的曼迪娅结为夫妇,一家人和谐美满。9.11恐怖袭击的发生使美国国内掀起了反对、歧视穆斯林教徒的风潮,里兹瓦与曼迪娅的发廊被迫关张,而曼迪娅的独子山姆(Yuvaan Makaar 饰)更是在一场由种族歧视引发的少年争斗中意外身亡。悲愤的曼迪娅将愤怒发泄在了里兹瓦的穆斯林姓氏“罕”上,说只有里兹瓦告诉美国人民及美国总统他的姓氏并非与恐怖分子相关,才会与他再次相见。就这样,执着的里兹瓦踏上了艰难的觐见总统之途……

  【宝莱坞中生代电影全才】
  提起印度电影,或许很多人还停留在电影中欢乐的印度歌舞上,这成为了印度电影的特色,从而在世界独树一帜,但是也影响了其融入世界。作为不到四十岁的印度中生代导演,卡兰·乔汗显然试图做些改变,尽管至今为止仅有四部作品问世,却一直保持较高质量,既有印度风格浓郁的《有时快乐有时悲伤》(2001),又有浪漫爱情佳作《永不说再见》(2006),值得一提的是其导演处女作《怦然心动》(1998)完成时,他年仅26岁。同时,除了导演,他也是编剧、制片,甚至演员,堪称宝莱坞前途值得期待的电影全才。而其最新作品《我的名字叫罕》则格局和社会意义更大,它聚焦于居住于美国穆斯林人群,以个体的经历反映一个族群的困境,同时试图传达积极的情绪。
  对于本片涉及的族群和宗教主题,卡兰·乔汗显然早有意涉及,在谈及本片创作初衷时,他表示,“当我成为一个电影拍摄者时,我就有意识决定要拍摄这样的一个主题,因为我强烈的感到,在这个世界上,有种无意识的宗教信仰,也有一种对于宗教的征服和归一化倾向。我并不是一个信徒,但是我所受的教育让我能够理解这个世界存在的种种误解。我试图以一种包含情感的,有效的和戏剧化的方式去阐述这个主题,希望形成一种可以在全球层面沟通的方式,这也是我作为一个影人的尝试。”。他邀请了曾经合作过《永不说再见》的施巴尼·巴提贾担当主要的剧本创作,这位女编剧与导演一同进行了大量的研究,并拟定故事框架,之后以细腻的笔调撰写了剧本,为本片的成功打下了坚实的基础。
  【宝莱坞人气明星联袂出演】
  在这部电影中,主人公里兹瓦恩·罕与曼迪娅的爱情是重要的一条线索,为了演绎这段动人的故事,卡兰也找来了宝莱坞极具人气的演员沙鲁克·罕与卡卓尔。“沙鲁克和卡卓尔与我曾经在两部影片中合作,他们两人也长期在银幕上合作。”提起与老搭档的合作,导演表现出对主演的充分信任,“他们可以被称为印度的传奇伴侣了,之前他们扮演的银幕伴侣曾经取得了五次巨大的成功,所以他们与我再次走到一起合作是一种基于彼此感情和职业的选择。因为我们之间已经拍摄了两部电影,彼此之间有着很棒的合作关系。同时他们也都很喜欢这个剧本,并决定称为这部电影的一部分”正如导演所述,两位主演都是在印度取得了广泛认可的演员,沙鲁克更是有“宝莱坞之王”、“浪漫之王”、“印度的汤姆·克鲁斯”等美誉。
  【一段关于爱和信仰的旅程】
  试想一下,当一个坚定的男人,试图寻求宽恕,着手开始一场赢回珍爱的看似不可能的旅程,这个过程中会发生什么?他一路上试图教导每一个他遇到的人生活的真谛,激发整个国家关于人生的思考。这看起来是一个不可思议的故事,却直指现实世界,关乎个人,关乎爱情,关乎族群,关乎信仰。
  从故事来看,《我的名字叫罕》以爱情为主线,同时围绕着这段在美国的穆斯林的爱情,导演也试图说出更多内容,表现更多情感,即是什么让男女主人公选择了这样的爱的路径,是什么让一个男人决定开始一段看似不可能完成的旅程?而又是怎样的力量让他最终赢得了他的爱?卡兰·乔汗曾经表示,这份爱正是这个故事的基础,就如一份酥皮蛋糕,外面的层层酥皮都是在这个基础上叠加的。在罕的旅途中,导演也试图将真实生活中,美国穆斯林的困境表现在银幕上:社会总并没有太多如直接扇耳光或者烧毁汽车这样针对穆斯林的严重暴力,但是更多穆斯林承受的是一种冷冷的歧视,地铁站里被默默的监控;超市中被怪异的目光打量;餐厅中总要承受一些异样的目光;正是这些看似不严重的烦扰,让更多穆斯林感觉像这个系统的局外人,并带着愤恨被抛离。所以,卡兰·乔以一个外来的视角,展现着这个社会和世界对于穆斯林宗教和人群的误解性看法。
  在卡兰·乔看来,达成穆斯林和西方世界谅解的关键就是,不要以一种强力的姿态对待穆斯林及其宗教,不要将他们看作需要跟踪监控和紧张应对的对象。就以对待其它宗教一样,以平常心对待,而非因为911这样的事件后,认为伊斯兰教是一种需要特别对待的宗教形式,平和的对待彼此才是和解的正道。而作为观众,一路上罕的经历是带来励志的力量?还是社会百态的猎奇?或是真如卡兰希望的那样对于美国的穆斯林有一个更平和的看待?这就需要我们伴随里兹瓦恩·罕,跨越美国,去体会一个美国穆斯林眼中的美国和信仰。

·本片入围了2010年第60届柏林电影节的展映单元。
·导演卡兰·乔汗堪称“K王之王”,因为其执导和编剧的影片片名竟然大都要么直接以K字母单词打头,要么片名中含有K字母打头的单词。比如《怦然心动》(Kuch Kuch Hota Hai),《有时快乐有时悲伤》(Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham),《永不说再见》(Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna),当然,还有这部《我的名字叫罕》(My Name Is Khan)。
·卡兰·乔汗的“始终如一”不单单表现在他的“K字控”上,他至今执导的四部电影的男主演也全部为沙鲁克·罕,两人私下也是很好的朋友。
·这部电影拍摄过程中碰到的一大困难就是,在美国城市中,卡兰不知道在哪里可以找到清真寺拍摄,在一些地方,他尽管向当地政府作出了不会拍摄误导性影片的承诺,还是屡屡被禁止进入清真寺拍摄。
